Monhegan Plantation is working, with support from Midcoast Council of Governments, to assess existing housing stock on island, identify potential sites for workforce housing, evaluate the best use of identified properties to meet community needs, offer recommendations for zoning changes with LUPC that enable housing development goals, and develop strategies for funding any proposed housing projects that may come out of this process. Because Monhegan is a plantation, land use is governed by the Maine Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC). As part of our efforts, we have developed this survey to encourage community member input on preferences and needs related to housing opportunity expansion. Monhegan Plantation is exploring both short-term and long-term strategies for housing, and your input will inform future municipal decisions.
This survey is anonymous and open to all full-time residents, seasonal workers, other seasonal residents, non-resident property or business owners, and other community stakeholders. Your feedback is very important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to consider and respond to these questions.
If you are taking this survey via a printed, physical copy, the completed surveys can be returned in-person to the town office during open hours, scanned and emailed to [email protected], or mailed to Monhegan Plantation, PO Box 322, Monhegan, ME 04852.
We encourage you to respond to as many questions as you can. However, if you are not able to respond to every question, any responses you can provide are still strongly encouraged. If you think a question is unclear or limiting, please use the open comment box at the end to make any related notes. The estimated total time of completion for this survey is 15-20 minutes.
The survey will remain open until November 12, 2025, at 5pm.
